Batik banners and needlecraft, handmade by the Aluvihare Heritage Centre that was founded by artist Ena de Silva, adds a touch of the local flavour and colours to the interior.
Polished brass lamps and chandeliers adorn the interior complementing the bamboo, cane, ceramic, glass and stone textual palette.
Sri Lanka’s diverse artisanal handicraft heritage is a story told through the local carpentry, intrinsic timber cravings and brass work as well as the detailed embroidery, batik and cane weaving.
Locally sourced Teak timber panels with their intricate mouldings bring opulence and warmth to the space, while the soft hues of beige and grey upholstery fabrics blend in with the furniture and soften the heaviness of the solid Teak timber panels.
The brass chandelier accompanied by white-on-white wall panels bring a sense of grandeur and regality to the gallery of the old Presidents, each with their respective flags. The rich colour palette and stark rattan furniture creating the perfect atmosphere to house the honoured Dalada Perahera Tusker.
The rich colours of the oriental carpets liven the timber and marble floors and accentuate the detailed pieces of furniture.
